Operating system is the soul of computer and the foundation of network security. For more than 10 years, Zhang Chao, deputy general manager of Terminal Research and development department of Kirin Software Co., LTD., has always been fighting in the front line of domestic operating system research and development, inherits the spirit of hard work and dedication, and becomes a qualified national network security guardian. Born in 1987, Zhang has loved computers since childhood. After graduating from graduate school in 2012, he formally joined the operating system development team. Basic software development is a silent battlefield. Zhang Chao gradually realized that keeping the operating system in his own hands was crucial to economic development and national security. With this belief, Zhang Chao will build a domestic operating system as his goal. In 2014, Kirin Software began to develop a new version of its operating system. Zhang Chao used the technology and experience he learned to contribute to the research and development of the operating system from the demonstration and selection of technical solutions to the development and implementation of the first version. In 2016, Zhang Chao was transferred to the company’s R&D center in Tianjin, immersed in the development and promotion of new application systems, and applied the independent innovation of domestic operating systems to all walks of life. With the continuous development of the autonomous informatization process, the company put forward higher requirements for the application operating system at that time. Zhang Chao’s research and development focus has gradually focused on the user vision and interactive experience of the operating system, and the research of a better operating system. In 2020, Zhang Chao participated in joint project research. He and his team devoted themselves to research and development work, and the bold innovation in basic human-computer interaction and response speed greatly improved the user experience level of the operating system, and the safety, ease of use and ecological capabilities of the product were also greatly improved. In the past 10 years, the main work of Zhang Chao’s team is to make the independently developed operating system meet more industry applications. In his opinion, this job is very important. The team is innovating at the front line of research and development, writing line after line of code, and solving one application problem after another. Every important node, in the face of a large amount of data in the background of the system, Zhang Chao led the team to be on duty all night, 24 hours of uninterrupted detection and maintenance. In order to ensure the smooth operation of the system, every pair of eyes of the team are always glued to the screen until the product is delivered. Programmers work under a lot of pressure, and overtime is the norm. Sometimes, Zhang Chao returned to his residence after working overtime, not to continue to deal with the work, or to pay close attention to the rapid development of computer technology, to recharge themselves, and sleep at one or two o ‘clock every morning has become his living habit. “Innovating domestic operating system technologies and products for various application scenarios is something I think about every day.” Zhang Chao said. The customized education version operating system for primary and secondary schools, which was designed and developed by Zhang Chao, created the first consumer education and learning computer based on the independently developed operating system. In 2022, Zhang Chao won the “National May Day Labor Medal” issued by the All-China Federation of Trade Unions. “Honor is both encouragement and spur, inseparable from the hard work of all members, every programmer is the force of domestic software innovation.” Zhang Chao said. Zhang Chao and his team are still making unremitting technical exploration and achievement transformation for the self-developed operating system to a wider range of applications.
